Speaking of Tiny Things

by Lisa Rosen on February 18, 2010

What, you mean I wasn’t speaking of tiny things?

Well, let me reiterate:  tiny things are useful.  Especially tiny kitchen things–specifically, serving vessels.

That’s right.  If you serve yourself less, then you will consume less.  To quote my ever-so-eloquent daughter:  No dip, Sherlock!

These are my juice glasses.  You can’t imagine how much they have changed my life (that says a lot about how utterly stupid my problems are, doesn’t it?  Wait–don’t answer that).  Hyperbole?  Perhaps, but think about it.  Juice has a lot of calories.  Before I had juice-specific glasses, it was mighty easy to just keep pouring a few seconds longer.  I love orange juice–you know how some people are about their first cup of coffee?  That’s me and the orange juice.  You don’t want to stand between me and my juice.

So keeping the intake under control has been a challenge for me for years.  I tried measuring.   Drinking it out of a coffee cup.  It wasn’t till I got the juice glasses that I really felt happy about my juice addiction.  I love these glasses–the shape, the heft, the curve.  They make my juice look pretty.  They make my morning feel special, and slightly more elegant than my bedhead and ratty old flannel pants would suggest.  Don’t laugh–the aesthetics of one’s daily routine make a tremendous difference.  I swear my juice tastes better because it’s in a pretty little glass.

Also, it helps that the glass only holds 6 ounces.  A full glass of juice is much more satisfying than half a glass, don’t you think?
