Buncombe County: Smart Policy

by Lisa Rosen on June 28, 2010

Wandering around Asheville last week, I came upon a sign that struck me as a great idea:

It’s a simple message, but it’s better than a lot of public health initiatives, I think, simply because it’s usable.  Right there:  follow the arrow, and you’ll walk a mile.  No time like the present, right?  Just hop on the purple route and go.

So I did:

It’s right there, in the middle of downtown, where people are walking around all day long, every day.  Just a friendly little reminder to think about your health, in a place where you might not otherwise.

You can even incorporate your exercise with your sightseeing expedition (which, in my opinion, is the whole point of sightseeing).

I think there might be another route–some color other than purple.  I’ll go look for that one tomorrow.
